Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle's debut album was released in the UK on 31 May 2009. The album was launched as a limited edition white label of "Searching". Subsequently, three singles were released, "The Key", "Better Days" featuring Micachu, "Go Then, Bye" and finally "Spinning". Recorded mainly in Australia, the album was created by Debelle, Wayne Lotek and Plutonic Lab (who produced "The Key" and "Better Days") and Will Ashon, founder of Big Dada, the album documents her formative years in London. She cited Tracy Chapman and Meshell Ndegeocello as her biggest influences on the album. Unlike many other hip-hop albums, the tracks avoid the use of samples, instead relying on live instrumentation.
