After starting out as a duo (with the group Cinema) and then releasing a critically acclaimed first solo album, Cannibale (2018), Calypso Valois toured all over France and worked on various creative projects, notably in cinema and behind the decks, where she has been a DJ for several years. She had just begun working on what would become her second album when the pandemic interrupted her. Baroque melodies, elaborate lyrics, elegant production. The latter is handled by Yan Wagner, who had also worked on Cannibale. For the mix, Calypso called on Yuksek very early on, convinced that he was THE person who should mix this record. Her intuition was right: he brings out the full scope of the 10 tracks on APOCALYPSO. "Direct," as Calypso envisioned it, who embraces placing her voice at the heart of her ultra-accomplished compositions and writing that she embodies more than ever. Shaped by total, uncompromising, and deeply exciting romanticism, Calypso Valois' magnetic pop is as memorable as it is allergic to trends.
