After the first two volumes, exciting and abundant, which highlighted the richness of the French scene – deviant and singular, a bit subversive or even more so – spanning from 1978 to 1983, Jean-François Sanz and Marc Collin pooled and optimized their respective record collections to deliver a third installment, which arrived almost by surprise. Twenty-four tracks, including rarities and unreleased material, punctuate a collection that is once again captivating, and which even today would make a good impression. The festival DES JEUNES GENS MÖDERNES was even supposed to be held in November 2020 at La Station – Gare des mines, with an intergenerational line-up highlighting the musical lineage and the influence that this cold wave scene continues to exert on many emerging artists. While circumstances are delaying the event, we are left, in the meantime, with a cascade of tracks that will penetrate our minds. Analoid, with its hypnotic Sans issue and fatal synth gimmicks against a backdrop of cold languor, lays and dares to lay the first stone. We are, already, in the distinctive tone of the era. Alena follows, signing Les ailes de la nuit. These take a lively flight, also filled with addictive sounds. Dehumanized voices, emphasized rhythm make the clan excel.
