With "Heian," Makoto San delivers again. This era of medieval Japan follows the Nara era (which was also the name of the quartet's first EP). We find the masked band's characteristic sound: the marriage between bamboo instruments crafted by the four ronins and electronic music.
The Heian era ("peace" in Japanese) marked a change of capital to what is now Kyoto, and the mutant tracks "Fuji" and "Kodama" embody this tension between tradition and modernity. The tracks "Guadua" and "Kibo" make forays into the West, further blending Makoto San's music. This emancipatory EP, Heian, lays the final stones of Makoto San's original temple.
