Juliette et Roméo reinterprets the Shakespearean myth as a contemporary ballet. Three figures inhabit the stage: Juliette, rebellious and free; Roméo, young and insolent; Sister Laurence, narrator-slammer. A forbidden love is born in a city ravaged by hatred. Roméo and Juliette want to escape, defy the rules, live free. Sister Laurence’s slam reveals hidden thoughts and tensions. Words clash, bodies respond: urgency, desire, tragedy. Each slam echoes a gesture, each gesture extends a word. The neo-classical music by Fabrice Aboulker supports the dramatic intensity. The staging and choreography by Tamara Fernando and Matthew Totaro blend contemporary and urban dance. A love story danced, slammed, and marked by destiny.
