Juliette et Roméo reinterprets the Shakespearean myth in a contemporary ballet. Three figures inhabit the stage: Juliette, rebellious and free; Romeo, young and insolent; Sister Laurence, a narrator-slammer. A forbidden love is born in a city consumed by hatred. Romeo and Juliette want to flee, defy the rules, live free. The slam poetry of Sister Laurence reveals hidden thoughts and tensions. Words crackle, bodies respond: urgency, desire, tragedy. Each slam echoes a gesture, each gesture extends a word. The neo-classical music by Fabrice Aboulker supports the dramatic intensity. The staging and choreography by Tamara Fernando and Matthew Totaro blend contemporary and urban dance. A love story danced, slammed, and marked by destiny.
